biography.
It's a classic story of 'what ever happened to...' if there ever was one. Rich Murray first graced television screens as Jordan Catalano in My So-Called life. The Venice Beach native landed the role after doing some local print and commercial work. He felt a lot like he fell into acting on accident. It wasn't like he liked the attention growing up. The opposite, actually. Rich suffered from a fair bit of social anxiety, and getting into local improv and acting workshops was his mother's way of gently encouraging him to be more outgoing. It helped, some, but when the cameras were off, he still felt a little like he reverted to his natural state. He thought of it as putting on a mask for the time being, but was always happy to slip it off afterwards.
Job offers continued to come after the show wrapped up, but Rich wanted to take a break for college and to spend some times figuring out what he wanted out of life. His parents were a little confused by the decision, but supported his choice to go off to college. He attended Syracuse University where he majored in film, and fell in love with life behind the scenes. While he may not have finished his degree, he still felt a sense of accomplishment over figuring out what he wanted out of life, he was just too eager to get started. He has written many screen plays over the years, but as his own worse critic, he managed to talk himself into showing them to anyone. While living in New York, he fell in love with comedy and writing and decided that wherever his life took him, it would involve those two things. Being brought in to punch up scripts with jokes here and there isn't exactly what he saw for himself back then, but hey, life takes different paths all the time.
After college, Rich joined the Upright Citizen's Brigade, which felt a little like a match made in heaven. This led to another short lived stint on a television series, and this ultimately inspired him to pursue more comedic parts. Over the next few years, Rich would pop up on several television series for one off parts, and in the midst of this, he auditioned for SNL three times. The first two auditions were met with outright nos, but the third time was the charm. He was offered a writing gig, but ultimately decided it wasn't what he wanted to do and turned them down. If he was going to write, it would be his own stuff.
He continues to be quite the introvert. These days he loves performing, but when he's on, he's on, and when he's off, he's off. Occasionally people he's worked with on projects who don't know him very well assume he's rude when he's not receptive to casual conversation. He can't help it, sometimes he goes into shutdown mode where all he wants to do is be left alone. He enjoys the fact that he can fly under the radar for the most part, but his higher profile girlfriend sometimes makes this difficult. Still, he wouldn't trade his partner in crime for the world.
Currently, he has taken something of a break from acting to pursue writing full time. And being hilarious on Twitter, of course.*
*No one thinks you're hilarious on Twitter, Rich.

I hear Texas when you talk. - Best friend, partner in crime. An unlikely match, but one that works well all the same. Rich is very private about his relationship with Natalie, but that doesn't stop people from making things up about it.
